Amina Hussain was born in Manchester and studied the flute at Chetham's School of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music. After completing her studies with Richard Davis and Peter Lloyd in 1998, Amina began her freelance orchestral career in the Canary Islands working as guest principal flute with both the Orquesta Sinfonica de Tenerife and the Orquesta Sinfonica de Galicia. Since then Amina has freelanced extensively as Principal Flute and section player with various orchestras across the UK, has recorded many orchestral CD's and played in numerous live radio and television broadcasts. Amina has also performed with some fairly well known people such as Barry Manilow, Bill Bailey, Katharine Jenkins, Girls Aloud, The Priests, Antony and the Johnsons, ABC, Blue Planet, Paul Potts at the Royal Variety Show, Andrea Bocelli at BBC Children in Need Manchester Rocks and HRH the Queen!

Amina is the Principal Flute of the Manchester Camerata, prior to which she held the position of Second Flute. Since joining the orchestra in 2008, Amina has enjoyed performing more chamber music and has done various solo and chamber concerts around the UK, including Mozart Flute and Harp Concerto and the Telemann Concerto for Flute and Recorder. There is also an upcoming performance of Dance of Death, a concerto for 4 soloists to be performed in May 2014 for Camerata's final concert of the season. In addition to this, for the last year, Amina has been a guest player with the Cuillin Sound Trio, having recorded a CD and toured the Highlands playing traditional Scottish folk tunes to film as well as some unusual classical repertoire. Amina also has a keen interest in world music and is currently in the process of learning the bansuri, the beautiful Indian classical flute.

Community and education work feature very highly in Amina's career. She is the Player Consultant for the Manchester Camerata's Learning and Participation Department through which a great team strive to improve, develop and pioneer in successful community collaborations using music as a tool for social development. Amina also works in a variety of other settings with different charities such as Jessie's Fund, Music in the Round and Magdala, covering special needs, Dalcroze with little people and music as therapy for dementia.

Future plans include travels to India to study Indian classical flute and a trip to Paris to study the effects of music as therapy for dementia and premature babies.
